Abstract

Objective: To analyze how social media disconnects adolescents from physical reality.

Methodology: A documentary study (essay) was conducted describing social media and how it can influence adolescent behavior, attitudes, tastes, beliefs, and the potential consequences. The Scopus and Scielo databases were used to gather information on the topic. Literature from 1990 to 2024 was considered.

Conclusion: Excessive use of social media among adolescents is increasing and can lead to social isolation, difficulties with sleep and study, disconnection from reality, and consequently emotional problems such as anxiety and low self-esteem.
